Having been impressed but not surprised by a Pilot friend and the Company he works for having flown supplies to Puerto Rico and planning to do more, I decided a donation to an organization I know uses every penny for Disaster Relief was in order. The Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief fund. All administrative costs are borne by Baptist Men/Baptists on Missions, I first became familiar with their work when we joined FBC Mebane and while my health prevents me from physically going with them I can support them financially. With all the needs from this Hurricane season they and others can use the help. I urge you to find a similar organization that doesn’t eat up your dollars with “overhead” as some of the better known organizations do.
is likely nearing the end of his run, a Heart Attack, two Stokes, he’s coded twice is presently on a ventilator. He’s had a rough couple of weeks but when this is over he’ll be going where most of us claim we’re going, a follower of Christ, he has often said “everyone wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die to get there”. A lot of wisdom there, meanwhile Manna Market looms today, then two weeks of Doctor’s appointments of one type or the other. Only one that I truly dread, a reexamine of my Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, if its still growing I hope its ready to be fixed. So the cycle of life and death continue, funny but this mornings Daily Bread reading was the first three chapters of Ecclesiastes, pretty appropriate. God Bless…life goes on.
Saturday of last week I took my hunting buddy around to some of our Gun Shop haunts, he had eye surgery several weeks ago and still wasn’t able to drive, we had lunch and all seemed well. Monday morning his Sister texted me that he was at the ER at Duke Regional and they thought he’d had a Heart Attack, Tues. morning he had a light stroke affecting his speech only, then Wed. morning he went into Afib. I was able to visit him for a few minutes yesterday afternoon but he was obviously weak, they hope to be able to do By Pass surgery in the next couple of weeks and one of his Carotid Arteries is pretty well blocked but there’s nothing they can do right now. We never know what awaits us and all we can do it give ourselves to the Lord and trust in him.
actually for several days, a “update” sank the ship but things are pretty much back to normal, RFC didn’t let my hyper-link go back up but I suspect it was “grandfathered” up from previous time so can’t complain. My hunting partner Rick is having emergency eye surgery today and tomorrow I’ll have to take him for a follow up. He had Cataract removal last week and suddenly his retina in the repaired eye started detaching…one thing after another. Hopefully the Doctors at Duke Eye can get him all fixed up, he’ll be devastated if they can’t get him at least somewhat squared away. Hunting is his passion and I don’t think he/d know what to do with himself if he couldn’t. The other eye has a Macular Fold they’re going to have to repair before they can do the Cataract surgery on it. Always something for us Seasoned Citizens to deal with and getting old ain’t for Sissies.
The better half retired the end of May and is slowly adjusting to it, about a week ago my Brother in Law called and asked if we’d be interested in going to the Beach with them, I had a couple of Church meetings to attend but we were able to leave Friday morning. We stayed at the Inn at Pine Knolls on Atlantic Beach (formerly the Clamdigger), we had great weather Friday, Sunday and Monday and the Girls took advantage of a rainy Saturday take us shopping, lol. It’s nice to be able to do some spur of the moment traveling now, I’d tried to talk the wife into retiring several years ago and I thinks she’s happy she finally did.
Over 7 gigs of photos have been successfully transferred, it has taken about a week as Photobucket would slow to a halt each day with about 1 gig transferred, deliberate or not is impossible to say. Some have closed their accounts with PB but I’m leaving mine open as much to annoy as anything. Doesn’t cost me a dime so far, so I’ll leave it there. I will not be going back and restoring my photos in past posts, we’re talking thousand of photos over at least ten years, just too much to even try, so in that respect they do win.
the end of internet Blogs at least those that tend to depend on visual media to a large extent as this Blog does. Their refusal to allow 3rd Party hosting at a reasonable rate has devastated the many how to posts on many of the sites I visit. I have a five year hosting deal with Go-Daddy that costs less than what Photobucket wants for a single year, I don’t do anything to make money from this Blog because that’s just not what I’m about. It will be interesting to see if Photobucket comes up with something more reasonable, otherwise I think the backlash will take them out, I could be wrong.
Twice a year our Church does a Mission day called “In as much”, we build handicapped ramps, make repairs for those who can’t afford to do them for themselves etc. I had a painting crew and we painted the Food Pantry at Allied Churches of Alamance County, we varied from seasoned adult to two high school students and all pitched in whole heartedly It really does my heart and soul good to see these folks doing for those who often can’t do for themselves, I’m proud to be associated with them.
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
The Ruger 96/44 I purchased not long ago is back from the gunsmith, it had a small crack in the wood at the back of the receiver, more like a thumbnail sized area that had popped loose and been poorly repaired. With that area taking most of the recoil I didn’t want to take any chances so I had Thumper put it right and as usual he did it well.
A friend had given me a couple of Weaver V9 scopes and one of them seemed to be just the ticket for this little .44 Carbine, darned if it isn’t a slick actioned thing and the trigger seems just fine for what it is as well.
In other news it seems the Board of Directors at DPRC is at it again, power grabbing or at least trying to, they want to make all their decisions binding without member approval. It’s just one thing after another the past 5-6 years. Are there no honest men in that Club?
would have been my Dad’s 92 nd birthday had he not passed back in May of last year, Mom and Dad’s anniversary would have been the 10th of this month. I exchanged texts with my Niece (who was like another daughter to them) and Sister and my Son. Each of us with still fresh thoughts about his passing. Gone from our presence but far from forgotten.
